Nazzak, accompanied by Sylleth, finds Father Howell and Olive and whispers "Dad/Olive. I'm in visidible and in trouble. There is a bug we need to kill first, then I need to hand myself in for breaking the law. Til is angry wiv me. I'm sorry."
REWIND IN TIME, and we hear about Evandrielle and how she was safe within the Elven Quarter during the Sack of Myste-Hass.
Father Howell is woken by Nazzak. Howell sets off to find Olive, but accidentally bumbs into Master Yisban who persists to follow him around as he seeks the elderly dwarf. Evandrielle sees the altercation and heads over.
Two Helvettians, Galadon and Teneus, come over and question the group, showing utter disbelief when Evandrielle claims to be Father Howells lover. Evandrielle informs them that high priest Corym once slept with a woodland creature, specifically a deer.
The group convene in Father Howell's tent, and call for Engaro. Engaro promises to vouch for Nazzak. Engaro is concerned that Til has changed since he has been in the presence of Susnos. He has become more aggressive and strays from the path of Imogen. Engaro says that Susnos managed to convince him of her cause, but he has felt that she held some sway over him which is odd, because he is not easily convinced.
There is a man who sells bacon, bread and goat's milk at the base of the tower.
Engaro pledges that Nazzak and Sylleth won't leave the Tower of Dariss until the matter is dealt with. The women will be trialled in the next few days. Four helvettians accompany us to the tower with the hole, Teneus and Serio. Teneus flirting with Evandrielle. Nazzak climbs up the column of rock, locating the hole which descends quite a distance, with a floor and an open area inside that is 60ft down.
Master Yiban climbs up and the falls into the hole on the other side, falling unconscious. Olive changes into a bear and then leaps up. Evandrielle is lifted up and then heals Yiban. But, when Evandrielle arrives at the bottom, Yiban is unconscious again and she heals again.
There was a flying creature that was feeding on Yiban, which flies and nestles itself in the rock, blending in seamlessly. The adventurers attack the small, flying creature.
In chasing this creature, the party notice a tent. The creatures swarm. As they attack, Father Howell is taken down. The others are forced to face the stirges without their cleric who spends most of the time unconscious, being repeatedly saved by Evandrielle and Olive.
Investigating the tents, they find it is old and covered in rock dust. There are abandoned cots in her. There are footprints in the dust near one of the beds, relatively recently. Further down there are crates, more tents and the sound of running water.
The group rest and then Olive casts locate creature. Nazzak wanders into a large chamber with a pool and hears a soft, feminine voice. She says she can't see Nazzak and her name is Kristiana. She illuminates the pool in bluish light. She claims that she has been put there by the God of Fortune to guide others towards their desires. The water lifts up and fashions into a human women, offering guidance.
Olive sends Kristiana a message asking to be made a Harbinger of Fate. The old dwarf made a promise to her dead husband, Alistair, who has been dead for 125 years. She promised she would finish his tasks and become what he was supposed to be. Olive believes Alistair's death was the start of her destiny, but she believes she is not worthy in the eyes of Fate.
Evandrielle asks for Kristiana to fix her ring. The women asks her relax so she can enter her mind. Then, she asks Evandrielle to drop the ring into the water.
Father Howell asks for Geoffrey to be kept save, and removed from harm. Kristiana argues against this. She claims that Geoffrey has as much right to choose his own destiny. But, Howell truly wants to be a greater man, and the death of his brother may help this journey. She claims that Howell is far stronger than he appears.
Sylleth asks for ultimate power over life and death, with no intervention from the gods. Kristiana says he must go before a powerful entity and ask for what is needed. She offers to give directions to the individual, but he must ask if she is willing. So, Sylleth must quest to learn how to ask properly. She gives the directions "Head towards the town of Bruidor, head west into the mountains and continue moving into you reach sight of the sea whilst within sight of the peaks. The hills will descend to a valley with the mountains all around. There is a tree, ancient with branches than hang wide. The trunk of the tree is hollowed out and Sylleth will find what he seeks".
Nazzak wants to bring honour back to his tribe. He wants to rewrite the wrongs that were done. Kristiana claims Nazzak can't undo his actions. She says stay with your friends, help them and make sure everyone knows you have done good things. It will only be with you for as long as you carry it. You can put it down any time you want. But, if you want, I can't take the memory from you.
Olive probes the creatures mind. She gets the feelings of insatiable need - it wants what is in Nazzak's mind. Sylleth dispels magic on the water and prevents the glow, dispersing the form. The voice is still there though and she claims she has already fed off some of those in the tower and it makes them powerful. Olive sees Til is one of them. She disappears.
Searching the tents reveal a man wearing the red tabard of a Anglan soldier. He has two rings and his hand is wrapped around the hilt of a magical sword. The undead animates a black smoke arises from the body and lurches towards Evandrielle. More shadows emerge from the water. Father Howell turns the creatures after Nazzak kills a number and Sylleth realises that narcotic and fire does not damage the creatures.
The group are retreating from the wave of shadows that Kristiana is rising. But, Yiban jumps into the water, enticed by the creature.
Olive the bear reaches into the water and falls unconscious. She sees Yiban and they're in a gigantic tree, with branches sprawling all around. Olive tries to get Yiban to leave, but is dominated by the creature who commands her to come into the tree. Inside, it is very large with lots of nice furniture. A large women sits inside, humanoid but huge. She sits with her head low, as if it too heavy to keep aloft. She is very old and she has her fingers in a blue Genai Stone. Her spittle causes the table cloth to smoulder. She claims they've already struck the bargain. She claims she has lied about representing Sardonyx. She says Olive can take something back with her, which is already arranged. Olive changes into a bear and then goes to attack.
Yiban appears out of the box, as if he hadn't ever left. Olive explains that she thinks a deal has been accidentally struck.
The light dissipates in the water, leaving the chamber dark again.
The group move back to find the final dire stirge. Nazzak says a prayer to Ka, but received no answer. They locate the final stirge using locate creature and then bind it to the ground. Nazzak kills the final stirge. Olive detects no more of the creatures.
There are more corridors in the complex. There is the long skeleton of a dead dragon, about thirty-five foot long. There is an alter with an idol - a hunched figure with primitive features, bipedal with a long face. The features almost look like a The Wild Lands diety. There is an old chest with rotted hinges - which was empty, but trapped with barbed darts. The bones looked like they've been placed here.
On the alter, there minted coins and other offerings, such as diamonds and jewels. There is a copper chain with a silver medallion and an etching on the one side, where colour used to be. It is reminiscent of the symbol of Garr The coins have a face that is looking directly forward. There is a triangular design on the back, that looks a lot like a gem stone.
Kira searches around the corner and sees a number of beds with a people dressed in Anglan styled tabards. Eventually, she flies into a huge chamber with a giant stone (possibly a Genai Stone) with bodies of Anglan soldiers blasted around in a circle, dead. The stone has been etched with a death shadow, legs and arms outstretched.
Nazzak preys to Garr, and, when he gets no response, he places down his pie eating award necklace and takes the diamond, replaces a gold that Evandrielle takes and leaves some dragon scales as his own offering.
Kira finds an area of cave in.
Olive approaches the stone and feels a divine presence. The source is indistinct and crowds the senses. Olive touches the stone. She sees a vision. There are Anglan soldiers all around, unaware of her presence. THere is a priest in the centre with a white-face necklace. He moves forward towards the stone. He talking but olive cannot hear their words. He touches the stone, every man is killed. The man disappears, and the stone is marked.
Sylleth uses a flying spell to get us out of the column of rock.
