Fwnai

The Fwnai have developed a method for extracting salt from sea-water to provide both freshwater and salt for the rest of the tribes. Although other tribes can usually obtain fresh water from springs and rivers, the salt is uniquely produced by the Fwnai. As well as its use as a flavouring and a preservative in food preparation, it is the main currency of the island. This has resulted in this tribe being one of the most powerful on the island, and in the past they have tried to use this as leverage in minor squabbles with other tribes. However, their lack of skills in other areas (mainly due to the intense effort put into developing their desalination process) means that their produce is limited to salt and water, with very little foodstuff being grown or other raw materials being produced by the tribe. This has left them as perhaps the tribe most dependent on the economy system currently in use on the island, which in the past has undermined any attempt to blackmail other tribes by withholding salt supplies.
