Background

Percival Wainwright grew up with a modest family in the heart of Chevel. His father a sailor, of no particular rank and his mother taking on the ever important role of full time loving mother. Tragically his father's ship was lost at sea with no explanation. Things took a turn in Percival's life from that moment. At the young age of 10 over the next year he watched as his whole humble but happy life collapsed. His mother, once a happy soul and full of life, became a husk and embodiment of loss and despair. Though she tried to provide as best she could, inevitably the house was lost. The starvation only grew and within a year Percival was left alone in the world with nothing but questions, sorrow and his father's 'lucky' jacket.
Being brought up honest and with compassion the thief's life played heavy on his conscience and could not sustain him so he adopted a set of questionable outlooks on the world and took to the smuggling life. Percival's need to eat and survive outweighed his want to uphold his parent's legacy of an honest and trustworthy boy that was instilled in him. He believed as no one was really getting hurt, it's just a normal transaction really. Money is exchanged, pleasantries too. So what if the items are illegal, it's not doing any harm, or so he thought. Leading the underdog life of a somewhat street rat made Percival very successful at avoiding the eyes of the law as no one really paid him any attention at all.
Once adulthood hit and his money from 'exotic' transactions were saved he expanded his business and used what smarts he had to try and make his parent's proud of him. Percival ended up in ownership of a very run down and small ship. However nothing could rival his drive to forge a path in the world and ever rise in the social ranks. Percival then spent the next few years sinking everything he had into the ship's repair and then onto smuggling from town to town and then coast to coast. For several years after he successfully navigated the fine line between piracy and the civilised world trying to make connections where he could, however the nature of his earnings meant even as a successful 'businessman' he was still always overlooked by his peers.
Percival's crew is made up of the washed up of the world. People shunned by society, the kind of type a respectable person wouldn't even lay eyes upon. For within these men and women Percy saw a reflection of himself and was determined to drag them from the grips of Garr and give them what he never had. A family and a place to belong. Despite his crew being a haven for the hated along with a successful and renowned smuggling group within the underbelly of the coasts. As Captain, Percival still felt distant from the crew and still was that 11 year old boy, lost in the streets alone, hungry and cold.
With news of this new continent opened up to the known world Percival had chartered a course over in hopes of new opportunities to be had and maybe, to finally find his place in the world.
Upon sailing to the new continent Percival entrusted his first mate to pull the ship in and finish the journey. The first mate was the youngest of the crew at 19 years old but the young Tiefling reflected almost the perfect image of Percival's soul and he went out of his way to show them the ways of the world and how to sail. Percival is still not sure what went wrong when bringing the ship down the coast line but it seems like Alaie had other plans. The ship encountered a freak storm on the way in, followed by thick fog. Upon feeling the ship struggling, Percival dashed out of the captain's quarters just in time to see his beloved ship tear in half. The next memory he has is waking up on the western shore again as the 11 year old boy. Lost, cold, alone.
The constant feeling of displacement and that the world had no place for him haunts Percival to this day. The sea is his escape as Alaie is fair and Percival feels as close as possible to his father whom he believes to be with Alaie helping guide him on the waters. All he is looking for in his life is a family and friends that look at him as a person and not the down in the dirt street rat he has always been. But, will he find such a thing as he heads Into the Wilds?
