The adventurers head to the Temple of Garr. A crowd are gathered outside, as are a number of guards. The guards have not been informed by Geoffrey that Maolmhuire is coming. BUt, he introduces himself as the saint of Garr.
Maolmhuire instructs the group - "Enter the Temple of Garr. He is waiting." He then goes to Heller's office and has a private conversation with Gartok.
Maolmhuire uses mage hand to explore Heller's office and finds a bowl of liquid in the corner of the room. There are no personal effects in the room. The wardrobe has a few sets of robes and a number of normal items, some of which are high quality, others cheap and heavily worn.
Maolmhuire dresses in Heller's most official robes - black with a slight purple trim. They return to the main room, closing the doors behind them.
Maolmhuire steps into the limelight and begins his sermon. Maolmhuire states that the angels are upon us because we have sinned. He claims there have been too many healings and resurrections. He says that there is only one way to fix the issue, by praying to the true god Garr. Worshippers must come to the temple everyday and pray to him. Maolmhuire admits that the head priest had been killed in a travesty, and grants himself emergency powers until this issue can be fixed.
Suddenly, the altar cracks open and from the smoke emerges Yullthorai, a demon woman with white fabric wrapped around her eyes. She claims to be a representative of Ankelus. She claims that Garr's time is over, he has grown inferior. Worship of Garr is damnation.
She summons a grotesque, obese creatures who runs at Maolmhuire. Yullthorai orders the creature to bring the priest back to their lord.
She then casts nightmarish slumber on the crowd, sending them to their long rest, before raising their corpses. Calamity arises in a fight for the temple. The woman casts a spell that kills all the villagers and the zombies nearby. Both enemies focus their attacks on Maolmhuire.
Dramos sucks up the large fiend into his Iron Flask. Reinholt finishes Yullthorai. A stalker appears to collect her soul. Corym takes an amulet from her, severing one of her hands. Reinholt takes her satchel. Corym turns the creature to ash.
Inside the woman's satchel is two scrolls (scroll of gaseous form and scroll of stone skin) and another Bag. She had a ring which Corym took and a staff.
Harbinger speaks with the single survivor, trying to rouse him. Dramos moves the bodies to the back room. The group exit and Corym seals the doors with stone shape.
The adventurers head to the Temple of Imogen with Francy Dobweaver, where they rest for the night. Watches are taken during the night in shifts to protect the group.
Lori stays up with Reinholt, talking about growing up in the town of Refuge. There was a priest who was always going on about peace being the other side of Dariss. One day some of the Equillian nights came and demanded something. They killed him and all the other peaceful worshippers.
In the morning, Reinholt modifies Francy Dobweaver's memory. He gives Francy the image of striking the final blow on the stalker, overcome with the power of Garr.
Harbinger summons Altibo again. The group then returns to the Temple of Garr, where Geoffrey is gathered with guards and the group see to the bodies and say the correct words.
Maolmhuire returns to Heller's office. The sheet has been removed from the bowl at the side and the font is full of blood. The discarded cloth has blood on it. The edge of the font has a trickle of blood on it. As Maolmhuire looks in, he sees his face reflected until a female face emerges from the surface of the liquid. It reaches out. Blood drains from the cavity.
"Yes?"
"Who are you?"
"I am a servant."
"What kind of servant are you."
"With who do I speak?"
"I am the head priest of this temple."
"Then, I am your servant. My knowledge is yours my priest. Ask of me."
"Tell me what you know of Ankelus."
"We have discussed this many times."
"Maybe we have. Tell me what you know of Ankelus."
"He takes his place, head of death with only two paths to him. He is well protected in his spire."
"How will he be killed?"
"Take away all that he loves."
"What does he love?"
"Death, souls. with each day Garr weakens and Ankelus strengthens. He gains demonic power."
"Tell me about the temple."
She continues to admit that Heller was hedging his bets by worshipping both gods of death. Heller found a way to Ankelus, not the easy way of death, but via the Tome of Stamaton in the underdark.
She also admits that she needs topping up regularly with fresh offerings of blood.
