A new bunch of bards, known as Tenacious Maiden, arrive from the mainland. They are put up by Milvere Sten whilst preparing for a competition to judge which bard group will open the new arena show. However, a creature that takes on the form of others attacks them, and one of the members is lost in a battle before the creature escapes off into the city.

Tenacious Maiden begin auditions for a new band member; they host a performance in the Weary Sailor where they gain several new band mates. The band are then employed to perform at the Helvettian Garrison outside of town. On arriving, it appears that most of the soldiers have been slaughtered and the performers encounter ghouls. The Helvettian leader has been charmed by a powerful woman who kills two members of the party. Tenacious Maiden are forced to flee, leaving several dead members of the band behind.
