Ehecatl meets Nazzak and Father Howell in the Temple of Imogen and enlists their help, along with some others from The Hung Goat, in meeting Madam Jao’s family. He has noticed a suspicious message about him on the noticeboard. At The Rising Dragon Inn a little bird-creature called Gwark makes them tea and then they’re teleported somewhere upward. Exploring this sky-top town, the party intervenes when a group of mercenaries attack a half-orc lady. The woman, Remi, is a princess who is meeting at J'ao Castle to discuss protecting her lands. The group forcefully questions one of the mercenaries who reveals she is part of The Blackrock Company. The group board a Sky Boat which takes them across to a village below J’ao Castle and then hike up the mountain to their lodging within the castle grounds, where they meet Madam Jao’s sister and end up in a confrontation with Remi’s advisor, Mordekai. The party attends a tense diplomatic dinner and then tours the gallery when one of the vases explodes. Inside is an assassin that attacks the group before leaping through the window and escaping via magic with a humanoid woman. It is revealed that Mordekai’s family has been threatened by The Blackrock Company and conflict arises as Remi tries to kill him. In the morning Ehecatl rows Madam J'ao onto the lake. A commotion erupts as the bell is rung loudly, the group finds Ehecatl, missing one arm, smashing the bell. Exhausted, Ehecatl is carried back to his quarters. Nazzak visits the ancient shrine to the ancestors and then the majority of the group accompany Remi into her formal negotiations, leaving Ehecatl and Father Howell behind. The group then set out to the shrine where Ehecatl discovers a secret passageway down into the earth behind where the chambers are filled with undead and a banshee that appears as an ancestor with an uncanny resemblance to the J’ao family. The party search the ruins and Nazzak finds a magical greatsword which he returns to the family. The group reboard the Sky Boat and Tridast informs them that he is returning to the Ossan Tribe with Princess Remi. Lei Su pledges herself to finding her father and seeing Ehecatl reunited with Madam J’ao.
