Piety Paths

The path of piety is available to all character classes, but you can only gain piety from one deity at a time. If your character loses faith or changes direction with their beliefs, they will begin losing, or have all piety points removed. These boosts (or obstacles, depending on your perspective) are for flavour and to encourage good role playing. Piety will be rewarded or removed at the DM's discretion.

Earning and Losing Piety

You honour Garr when you respect the laws of death and ensure souls properly pass by carrying out acts such as:
  • Providing for, or overseeing, burial rites for those slain during a tragedy.
  • Slaying an undead with a CR higher than your own character level.
  • Preserving the memories of those that have passed.

Your piety level decreases if you commit acts such as:

  • Denying a dying person their last rites.
  • Defiling a tomb or removing wealth from a corpse.
  • Aiding those who seek to live beyond death or return from the void.

Piety 3+ : Votary of Garr

You can cast 'Gentle Repose' a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Piety 10+: Devotee of Death

You can cast 'Speak with Dead' once per long rest.

Piety 25+: Death’s Disciple

When a creature dies within 10ft of you, you can use your reaction to gain a number of temporary hit points equal to your level.

Piety 50+: Champion of the Afterlife

You can increase your Wisdom or Constitution score by 2.
